First-Year Seminar

Lafayette's inquiry-based, writing-intensive First-Year Seminars explore broad questions in the liberal arts and sciences.

Taught by faculty across the College, First-Year Seminars introduce beginning students to college reading and writing by exploring timely and complex questions in the liberal arts and sciences.

About

Taken in the fall of the first semester, the first-year seminar is the centerpiece of the first-year experience and the one course that all Lafayette students take in common. The Program is housed in the Provost's Office and directed by a member of the faculty. Currently, Bianca Falbo (English) serves as FYS Director.

FYS in the Common Course of Study

Courses

Each FYS course focuses on a topic chosen by the instructor, and new students select from the range of offerings when they register for fall classes.
